Yes, a zip code can be used as the origin or destination with our Directions API. You will find that in the USA, they don't always get as close to the real origin/destination as you might want. Postal code areas are irregular and different sizes. A zip+4 should get you fairly close to the real location, but a zip code for a rural area can end up being in the middle of a field/forest/lake that would not make for reliable driving directions.
In other countries, like Canada and England, their postal code system is very localized. They assign postal codes to individual buildings in some cases making directions using their postal codes much more accurate.
